project proposal
My final project is titled “Identity in Two Fragments”. With this project, I want to explore the concept of identity through two forms of art: visual art and music. I will create a poster series. Throughout my life, I discovered how identity cannot be defined by one simple thing but many aspects present in our lives. After years of observing my friends and how they act, I realize that there is much more to identity than we think.

The first fragment of my project will consist of photographs of 8 different people posing in front of a projector. The projector will project three different patterns to represent the multiple levels of someone’s identity; its versatility. There is a second fragment to this project. I want to create an immersive experience for the models that participated in this project, therefore I will ask them a very vulnerable question: What song represents your identity at the moment? I will play the song they choose while I take the pictures. The lyrics of that specific song will appear on the poster I will create.

Vulnerability is my biggest tool for this project. Our society has become focused on the surface of things and I want to break this barrier and discover the core of the concept of identity. I will compile the three portraits of each person and the text of the songs they chose to create a series of creative and artistic posters.

In order to realize this project, I needed to craft a stand that will hold the projector at a certain height and place the models on a chair in front. I will use a ladder to place the projector onto and a Fujifilm camera to photograph my models.
